Deposit Count: Meaning in a Merchant Cash Advance

Deposit count is the number of separate deposits that land in a business bank account in a month. Funders read it next to revenue to see whether income arrives steadily from many sources or in a few large lumps.

What does deposit count mean?

A restaurant with daily card settlements shows twenty or more deposits a month. A contractor paid by a few clients shows only a handful. Neither is wrong, but they tell a funder different things about how predictable cash flow is and how a daily or weekly debit will sit against it.

Why does deposit count matter to your business?

Many funder programs set a minimum deposit count, often alongside a minimum revenue figure. A business with good revenue but very few deposits can fall outside a box because each missing check has a large effect. Businesses with many small deposits usually get more options and more flexible payment schedules.

What if your deposit count is low?

  • Explain your billing cycle in a sentence, like monthly invoices to a few commercial clients.
  • Show receivables or signed contracts that support the next few months.
  • Ask your broker about weekly payment schedules, which fit lumpy income better than daily ones.

How do you keep the count accurate?

Deposit everything into the business account instead of batching several checks into one trip once a month. More frequent deposits reflect the business more accurately.

How does card processing affect the count?

Card processors usually settle daily, so businesses that take cards tend to show a high count without trying. If you split card sales across two processors, both sets of deposits count, as long as they land in the business account.

Where will you see it?

In an underwriting summary, listed monthly next to true revenue. In decline reasons like "insufficient deposit activity." In the questions a funder asks about customer concentration.
