How Do I Get a Copy of My MCA Contract?
Ask the funder for it. Every funder keeps the signed contract and should send you a copy on request, and if you signed electronically, the original email from the e-signature service usually has a download link.
Where should you look first?
Search your email for the name of the funder and words like contract, agreement or completed. E-signature services send a copy to every signer when the envelope is complete. Check your spam folder, too. If you signed through our process, we can often help you track down the envelope.
How do you ask the funder for a copy?
Call or email the funder's servicing team and ask for a full copy of the signed agreement, including all addenda, the personal guarantee and the ACH authorization. Ask for it in writing, by email, so you have a record of the request. A funder should send it without fuss. If they stall, keep asking and keep notes of each request.
Why do you want a copy?
- To check your payment amount and frequency.
- To look up the reconciliation process when sales slow.
- To see whether there's an early payoff discount.
- To understand what counts as a default.
- To give your accountant or attorney the real document, not your memory of it.
Where should you keep it?
Save the contract as a PDF in a folder you control, along with the offer, the closing statement and your payoff letter when you're done. It sounds basic, but owners often need these documents months or years later, sometimes for a new funder, a bank or a buyer of the business.
What if the funder won't provide it?
That's a red flag. A funder that can't or won't give you your own contract is not one you want to be dealing with. Put the request in writing and, if nothing comes back, consider talking to a business attorney about your options.
Which other documents should you request?
While you're asking for the contract, ask for the payment history too. A ledger of every payment the funder has collected lets you check the remaining balance against your own records. If you're near the end of the advance, ask for a payoff letter at the same time. Getting everything in one request saves you from chasing the servicing team three separate times.
What belongs in your MCA folder?
Create one folder per advance and keep the offer, the signed contract, the closing statement, the payment history and every letter in it. When anyone asks later, you'll have the full story in one place.
How can Afterfirst help with this?
If you funded through Afterfirst and can't find your contract, email info@afterfirstmca.com with the business name and we'll help you get it. If you funded elsewhere and want us to review it, send the copy once you have it.
