What Does an MCA Payment Look Like on My Bank Statement?
An MCA payment usually shows up as a recurring ACH debit with the funder's name or an abbreviation, sometimes with words like advance, funding or capital, on each business day or once a week. The same amount repeats unless a reconciliation or a split changes it.
How do you read an MCA debit line?
ACH descriptions are short and cryptic. You'll typically see the funder's name, sometimes truncated, followed by a code or an ID number. Some funders use a servicing company or payment processor, so the name on the debit can differ from the name on your contract. If you don't recognize a debit, check your contract and the ACH authorization you signed.
What does MCA mean on a bank statement?
If you see the letters MCA on a statement, it almost always stands for merchant cash advance. Other codes show up too, and banks sometimes add their own labels. If a debit is labeled in a way you can't place, call your bank and ask who initiated it.
How do split payments look on a statement?
If your advance is repaid through a split with your card processor, you won't see a separate debit. Instead, your processor deposits look smaller, because the funder's share was taken before the money reached you. Your processing statement shows the split.
Why do funders look for these lines?
When you apply for new funding, underwriters scan your statements for recurring debits to find existing advances. They recognize most funders' names and codes. That's why disclosing current advances matters: they'll be found either way.
What if you don't recognize a debit?
- Check your contract and authorization for the funder's name and any servicer.
- Compare the amount with your agreed payment.
- Call the funder if the amount or timing is off.
- Call your bank if you can't identify the company at all.
Unauthorized ACH debits can be disputed with your bank, though business accounts have shorter windows than personal ones. Act quickly.
How do you keep track of the debits?
Label the debits in your bookkeeping software so each one is tied to the right advance. When you have more than one advance, clear labels save your bookkeeper time and help you see the full picture at a glance.
What happens on weekends and holidays?
Daily ACH debits typically run only on business days. Payments usually don't process on weekends or bank holidays, so the Monday after a long weekend sometimes shows the debit as normal, not doubled. If you see two debits land on one day, check whether your contract collects missed days, then ask the funder.
Why does the name on the debit change?
If your funder sells the servicing to another company, the name on the debit changes. You should get a notice when that happens. If a new name appears without warning, check with your funder before assuming it's an error.
